Liberalism always generates the exact opposite of its stated intent – Quinn’s Laws

What is Sutton doing to help OH-13?  Good question.

Ohio’s unemployment rate is up again.  We are now at 11 percent, according to the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services.

The number of workers reported as unemployed in Ohio in March was 655,000, up from 648,000 in February. The number of unemployed has increased by 77,000 in the past 12 months from 578,000. The March unemployment rate for Ohio was up from 9.6 percent in March 2009.

Just a few short days ago we were reminded of the staggering problems facing the city of  Barberton, Sutton’s home town.  Now we see that the situation isn’t much better for the rest of us.

What is Sutton’s plan? Simple, tax and spend and tax and spend.

The more Betty does to help OH-13, the worse things seem to get.  She talks about saving and creating jobs, but Ohio’s jobs continue to disappear.

Betty, we’ve had enough help for now.  Please stop.

If you are weary of the death grip the two parties have on our government, and are ready to return control of our government to the people, then GOOOH is for you.

Betty Sutton Failure

Betty Sutton Begs for Cash

Thanks to a reader, we received a copy of Sutton’s recent campaign plea for financial help.  You’ve got to love the opening paragraph (more to come).

“The last election was about hope and change. We worked to elect leaders who would help to fix the economic mess, provide health care for everyone and put our country back on the right track. We won in November but we’ve been faced with obstruction by the Republicans at each turn. It’s been hard to deliver on the change we promised”

Well Betty, as long as you brought it up, we did ask for a solution to the economic mess.  I was just wondering when you were actually going to take care of that? And what about your plan to provide health care to everyone?  Correct me if I am wrong, but you didn’t exactly accomplish that either.

The word failure comes to mind, but you probably feel that way too.  That would explain why you’re blaming the republicans for your inadequacies as a legislator.   If only your party had majority control… wait, never mind.

Betty Sutton Wants Health Care With Abortion?

Betty Sutton Wants Health Care With Abortion?

AUDIO CLIP:  Sutton On HR3200 & Abortions

The 13th district Tele-Town-Hall may have been a flop, but it did provide concrete reference points regarding Rep. Betty Sutton’s understanding of H.R. 3200 and the potential implications of the bill if passed.  For now, I won’t go as far as to say that our congresswoman lied about abortion funding, but I do question her understanding of the the complex bill.

President Obama, Secretary Sebeilus, Speaker Pelosi, Senator Reid and Congresswoman Sutton have repeatedly told us that the health care proposal under consideration does not include provisions to cover abortion.  Perhaps that is true, but if these supporters of the plan aren’t misleading us, then why is our legislative branch unwilling to attach language that explicitly forbids the funding of abortion.  Such amendments have come up and each time they are defeated.  Could it be that there is a little abortion in there after all?

Recently, there was an informative opinion article on abortion funding published by the Washington Times.  In that article, Charmain Yoest laid out the ways federal funding of abortion could easily entrench itself into national health reform without being written into the bill.

Yoest points out that it all comes down to the definition of health care – not today, but in the future.  H.R. 3200 may not state, “the federal government will not pay for abortion,” but it does cover health care and if groups like Planned Parenthood have their way, the definition of health care will soon include abortion.  A single change in definition by our court system will magically cause the people of Ohio’s thirteenth district to be on the hook for federally subsidized abortions.

A simple solution to block this loophole has been offered by Rep. Bart Stupak of Michigan.  Certainly amid her busy schedule of parades, chili cook offs, fundraisers and speaking engagements Sutton could find time to show support for Stupak’s amendment.  Not so.  In fact, when the amendments came up for a committe vote on 7/31/09 Betty voted them down.

On an amendment that would excluded any mandate for abortion coverage, except to save the
mother’s life and in cases of rape or incest.  Betty Sutton voted NO.

On an amendment specifying that no funds authorized by the Act may be used to pay for any abortion or cover the costs of any health plan that includes coverage for abortion, except to save the mother’s life or in cases of rape or incest. Betty Sutton voted NO.

When asked if the representative would support Stupak’s fight for a vote on the Hyde Amendment, Betty Sutton’s office said she does not support Stupak because H.R. 3200 does not provide federal funding for abortions.

If the representative is unwilling to support Stupak or the Hyde Amendment, perhaps she could use her leadership skills to craft her own amendment to keep federal funds from paying for abortions under H.R. 3200.  After all, she told us at the Tele-Town-Hall that H.R. 3200 would not pay for abortions.  It’s time for the representative to back those words with action.  It would only take a moment and would show that she represents the values of her constituents in the 13th district.

Rep. Sutton, if you won’t support Stupak’s Amendment, you see no need for the Hyde Amendment, and you won’t speak up to demand that such language be added before the big vote, then what are we to think of you and your intentions? Are you planning another program,  perhaps “Cash for fetuses?”

It just might be time to change my opinion of you.  In the words of Congressman Joe Wilson… You Lie.

Sutton’s Record on Abortion

Where’s Betty Sutton? Shame on the Columbus Dispatch

Betty Sutton “Speaks Out”: What should U.S. do? Ohio’s lawmakers weigh in on the Afghan war

Congresswoman Betty Sutton Takes a Well Deserved Rest

Congresswoman Sutton Takes a Well Deserved Rest.

After her landmark speech at the West Virginia Federation of Democratic Women’s annual meeting, Betty Sutton is certainly due for a period of rest and relaxation. It’s for this reason that I say pooh-pooh on you Jonathan Riskind and the Columbus Dispatch for pointing out that Betty Sutton failed to meet a deadline.

Not included

Rep. Betty Sutton, D-Akron, did not respond in time to include her comments.

If you, Mr. Riskind, or your paper were worth a dime, you would know that the representative of Ohio’s 13th district is quite busy representing our interests in far away places like West Virginia.   How can she possibly be expected to meet a ridiculous deadline from a rag like the Columbus Dispatch. Shame on you for not holding this article until Betty’s response arrived, however long that might have taken (at least three weeks in many cases).

Seriously, Betty, could you try to do a little less gallivanting around the countryside and be a bit more accessible? Look at the list of representatives who managed to respond to Jonathan Riskind’s simple question:

Rep. Steve Driehaus, OH-1 D
Rep. Jean Schmidt, OH-2 R
Rep. Mike Turner, OH-3 R
Rep. Jim Jordan, OH-4 R
Rep. Bob Latta, OH-5 R
Rep. Charlie Wilson, OH-6 D
Rep. Steve Austria, OH-7 R
Rep. John Boehner, OH-8 R
Rep. Marcy Kaptur, OH-9 D
Rep. Dennis J. Kucinich, OH-10 D
Rep. Marcia Fudge, OH-11 D
Rep. Pat Tiberi, OH-12 R
Rep. Betty Sutton, OH-13 D
Rep. Steven C. LaTourette, OH-14 R
Rep. Mary Jo Kilroy, OH-15 D
Rep. John Boccieri, OH-16 D
Rep. Tim Ryan, OH-17 D
Rep. Zack Space, OH-18 D

That’s right, ALL OF THEM ARE LISTED EXCEPT YOU! Every other representative managed to step up and make a statement.  What happened Betty?

The man was only asking for 250 words (or less). Are you really that busy? Or, could it be that you are just afraid to answer tough questions?

Where’s Betty Sutton? – Take me home, country roads.

September 16th, 2009

In this week’s edition of  “Where’s Betty” we find our intrepid explorer, Betty Sutton, heading for coal country.

Betty Sutton visits West Virginia

Betty "Keep'n it Green" Sutton to visit Coal Country - West Virginia

Sometimes when I think back on all the great Town- Hall meetings we didn’t have with Congresswoman Betty Sutton, I get a little irritated.  But then something like the West Virgina Federation of Democratic Women’s annual meeting brings it all back into perspective.  When I see events like this, I step back and try to be more understanding of the representatives new found fame as “The Clunker”.

Congresswoman Betty Sutton is one of the hottest commodities going on the lecture circuit, and it would be wrong for us to expect her to make time for local radio shows, conservative groups, or individual constituents. Betty is a free thinking congressional leader after all,  and although she represents the 13th district of Ohio, we must always remember that Betty “The Clunker” Sutton is a representative of everyone.

The West Virginia Federation of Democratic Women will have the annual meeting beginning 2 p.m. Friday and continuing through Sunday at the Weirton Holiday Inn, 350 Three Springs Drive, Weirton. Rep. Betty Sutton, D-Ohio, will be among keynote speakers Saturday. Other speakers include Gov. Joe Manchin; Rep. Alan Mollohan and his wife, Barbara; Secretary of State Natalie Tennant; State Treasurer John Perdue; House Speaker Rick Thompson, and state Sen. Jeff Kessler. Sutton was the key author of the “Cash for Clunkers” program and serves on the House Energy and Commerce Committee. wvgazette.com

For those keeping track, Weirton, WV is nearly 100 miles Southeast of the 13th district’s southern boarder.  The travel time alone would be enough for a real Town-hall meeting.

Thanks for everything Betty!

The People vs. Betty Sutton

September 14th, 2009

The 9/12 DC Tea Party should be an eye opener to our congressional representatives.  Will Betty finally listen?

Congresswoman,

On September 10th, you were quoted by the Cleveland Plain Dealer as saying:

“The costs of the status quo are unsustainable and the current system leaves far too many without care when they need it. I share President Obama’s determination to deliver meaningful health-care reform to the American people, but the details matter. I remain committed to continuing to work for a system that will provide the people I am so honored to represent with choices and affordable access to quality effective care.”

On September 12th a crowd of unprecedented size gathered at your Washington D.C. doorstep with one clear message: We don’t want your health reform (HR 3200).

Betty, it’s time for you to represent the will of the people.

September 12 Must See

September 11th, 2009

It’s not a Betty Sutton video, but she should watch it. Then she can try to explain to all of us why she seems to disagree.

It’s tough to argue with the founding fathers. That reminds me, when is Betty going to answer the constitution question from the telephone-town-hall?

Betty Sutton, Pay Attention.

Betty Sutton

Dear Congresswoman Betty Sutton,

The game is about to change.  The people have had enough.  We are bringing our grievances directly to your Washington D.C. door step.

You can hide.  You can cower in fear of the truth.  You can conspire with your leadership against this district.  But know this, we are coming.  We will surround your palace.  We will be heard.

Sutton Says No To HR3200…

September 8th, 2009

public

Betty Sutton Supports Weiner's Amendment.

Don’t get your hopes up. Suton’s commitment is only for a plan that does not include a public option, this according to former communications coordinator for ACORN, David Swanson.

At first she tried to fudge it by saying “I think a robust public option is essential….” I asked “Is that a yes?” Then she said “I have told the leadership that the bill must include a robust public option…” I asked “Or you’ll vote no?” And she said “yes, yes,” and looked at me, and she understood perfectly that she was making a commitment. I’d had to ask three times before she did. But she did. Mary is my witness.

Oh, it gets better. Swanson, in his recent blog, also states that Sutton is openly supporting the Weiner single payer amendment.

She also committed to voting yes on the Weiner amendment, which took no prompting at all, and she openly admitted (rather adamantly) that it wouldn’t pass.
Rep. Anthony Weiner’s amendment to the health reform legislation in the House, HR 3200 would effectively change HR 3200 into a single payer bill.

She didn’t exactly lie about this to all us, but there is no doubt that she was disingenuous during the recent Tele-Town hall.  Dawn of Brecksville asked about the single payer issue and Betty took the opportunity to reassure us that health care reform is not about single payer reform. Take a listen to the following audio clip taken from Sutton’s response to Dawn.

Sutton Talks About Single Payer
um… the bill that we are considering, HR3200, is not a single payer system reform. Um… you know a a single payer, ah, program, has one administrator. Ah a of of of health care of ah benefits and that is not what we are talking about, quite the contrary. We’re actually taking a solution that builds on the private insurance system.

Listen to the entire question and answer on YouTube

It might have been nice for the representative to have informed us that HR 3200 wasn’t single payer, but she was about to make a run at making it so.

Betty Sutton will vote yes on the Weiner amendment, but relax everyone, that’s not what all this health care reform is about. We just need to “trust” the congresswoman.
