Announcements from the Money Tree

April 5th, 2010

Part 1

Is Betty Sutton The Money Tree?

Our elected representative, Congresswoman Betty Sue Sutton, has been tough to find since the election of 2008.  Perhaps it is because of all the hard work she is doing to save jobs in Ohio’s thirteenth congressional district.  Maybe it is because of all the time she spends reading each and every bill.  Whatever the reason, Sutton should make time to answer a few question.

In the last few months, announcements on the congresswoman’s official website have been coming fast and furious.  Many of these announcements deal with grant money being awarded to organizations within the district.  A read of the headlines on her website makes the her look like the proverbial money tree.

Strangely absent from each announcement is mention of the people who tirelessly work to secure these dollars. Sutton is quick to suggest her own hand in the efforts by publishing the announcements, but how much work did she really do?

If the representative had a major role in securing these grant dollars, then I am left wondering why she is playing favorites among organizations within the district.  Furthermore, if Sutton had a major role in securing these grants, why is the federal grant process not based solely on the merit of the applicants?  Are we really handing out tax dollars because the representative likes organization X more than Y and Z?

On the other hand, if the representative had little or nothing to do with the grants, then I must ask why she publishes these announcements on her official website in a way that implies her involvement.  Is our representative attempting to pass off the work of others as her own?

You can expect more on this topic.

Health Care Rally

March 11th, 2010

Betty has a plan...

Is your healthcare freedom worth a few hours of your time?  We are all tired.  We are all frustrated.  This is our hour and it is critical that we turn up the heat.  Take control,  join your fellow patriots for the “Save our Healthcare” rally at Betty Sutton’s Akron office.

The event, which is running in conjunction with other Patriots’ events nationwide, is your chance to let Sutton and her staff know that “We the People” do not want government-run healthcare.

Michele Bachmann said it best, “…this is asking a lot in the next two weeks to go and visit these congressional offices, it is actually a very small price to pay, when you consider that we’re on the precipice of losing the finest healthcare system that has been created…”

Friday, March 12, 2010 from Noon to 2PM

Betty Sutton’s Office, 39 E. Market St. LL #1, Akron, OH

If you cannot make an appearance at the event, please voice your concern by phone.

Washington: (202) 225-3401
Akron: (330) 865-8450
Lorain: (440) 245-5350

lol, more of the same.

Betty Sutton - Pwned

Betty Sutton - Pwned

Back on September 20th, we noticed that Betty Sutton was mysteriously predictably missing from a Columbus Dispatch article by Jonathan Riskind.  The Dispatch had asked the 18 members of the Ohio congressional delegation to answer the following question:

Do you think more U.S. troops are needed in Afghanistan? When will the United States know whether the mission has succeeded and U.S. troops can withdraw from Afghanistan?

Every member of the delegation managed to muster an answer except… you guessed it: BETTY SUTTON.

dispatch

Looks like we were no the only constituents to notice the representative’s absence.

Meet Mr. Calta.  On Sept. 21 he e-mailed Rep. Sutton to ask why she failed to respond to the Dispatch questions.  In true Sutton style, Calta was ignored!  Then, on Oct. 5, he sent a follow-up e-mail to Sutton’s office and got… NOTHING.

Akron.com West Side Leader – Now more than a month has transpired; I have received no feedback from her or her office whatsoever. I am a military veteran and am extremely concerned about our nation’s approach to our effort in Afghanistan, even more so now than last month. I truly want an answer from Rep. Sutton regarding her position in this matter. I am extremely disappointed that I have had no reply whatsoever.

Join the club.

For taking Betty to task in the West Side Leader, this week’s Pwn award goes to, Dick Calta.

A Quiet Revolt

Betty Sutton - Stop Messing With The Sign.

Stop Messing With The Sign

What happened to the Lorain “NO Government Health Care” sign?

An OH-13 constituent of Congresswoman Betty Sutton has been leading his own quiet protest of government health reform.  For the second time, this man’s “NO Government Health Care” sign has been mysteriously transported to a nearby dumpster!

Was this an act of community beautification?  Not likely since litter near the sign’s original location was left behind for all to enjoy.  It seems more likely to have been another attempt to “clear up any misinformation” surrounding Betty Sutton’s health care reform activities.

We may never discover  the perpetrator of these dastardly deeds, but one thing is for sure:  Involvement in political decent is growing.  The powers that be can take our signs, bar us from entry to their palaces, hang up on our phone calls, ignore our questions, and call us childish names – but they cannot slow the growth of our movement.  Our voices will be heard.

Betty, it’s time to make nice with your constituents.  Vote no on the new health care reform bill.

Pelosi’s Puppet

October 29th, 2009

Pelosi's Puppet

Pelosi's Puppet

Let’s Review:

  • The right does not want this health reform
  • The middle does not want this health reform
  • Now, the left does not want the health reform

So, who is Betty trying to please with her “yes” vote on health reform?

Excerpt from David Swanson’s: Healthcare Hoax from Hell:

A conversation I had with Congresswoman Betty Sutton is typical. She told me that the Kucinich Amendment was no big deal and shouldn’t be paid any attention to. She said she wanted everyone to focus on the Weiner Amendment on which she planned to vote yes. Asked if there was any chance the Weiner Amendment would pass, she replied of course not.

From Congresswoman Sutton’s point of view, a bill that will fail is far more important than a life-saving measure in a bill that might pass, because she planned to vote right on the former and brag about it to her constituents. “See, I tried. I really tried.” But if Sutton’s state, Ohio, passes the bill currently making its way through the state legislature and establishes single-payer for all Ohioans, the death panels, aka health insurance companies, will sue. And without the Kucinich Amendment they will win or at least hold things up for several years and several thousand deaths.

Will Sutton or any other members of Congress fight for either of these amendments? Will any of them call out Pelosi? Forcing the Kucinich amendment back into the bill and forcing a floor vote on the Weiner amendment are admirable immediate goals (as of now Pelosi will be allowing no floor amendments of any sort), but healthcare is very complex with the devil in the details, and the details are being written by devils, blood-soaked devils. The central demand of members of Congress must be: Vote No. The reason they should have to listen must be: We will occupy your offices and prevent you from working unless you commit to voting No, but if you commit to voting No and vote No, we will consider possibly not throwing your sorry ass in the street in next year’s elections.

We may disagree with the left on why this reform must fail, but at least we’ve found some common ground in wanting it to fail. The truth is, Congresswoman Sutton is not a principled woman, and she cannot be trusted to do what’s right. No one in OH-13 should expect the Congresswoman to actually represent our concerns – left or right.

Sutton, in her pursuits of power, has become nothing more than a puppet for her party’s house leadership. Her votes go as Pelosi instructs.

For once, I am with you David Swanson. Let’s through her sorry ass in the street in next year’s elections.

Screw You OH-13

B.S., Put Your Money Where Your Mouth Is.

pork
Betty Sutton brags about spending money we don’t have

When it comes to federal dollars, Congresswoman Betty Sutton certainly has been bragging about her pork projects.  Clearly she has no problem spending other people’s money if it means buying votes in OH-13, but what about her own campaign dollars?  Dose Sutton put her money where her mouth is?  Do her campaign expenditures reflect a commitment to the economic success of OH-13?

A quick look at the congresswoman’s reported campaign spending*, as listed by the Federal Election Commission, shows a couple of suspect entries.

The first of these occurred on June 1, 2009.  That was the day Sutton forgot all about Akron and one of the finest Double-A baseball teams in the nation.  The Akron Aeros, named for Akron’s work in aerospace research, are a great value in local entertainment.  Moreover, the team’s presence in downtown Akron benefits the local economy and keeps jobs in the district.

Where did Sutton’s money go?  We don’t have to look far; a quick trip into Ohio’s 11th U.S. house district will lead right to the home of the Cleveland Indians.  It was from the Indians that Sutton purchased gift tickets for her donors.

Betty Sutton's Motto - Screw You 13!

Betty Sutton's Motto - Screw You 13!

But wait, the Aeros were not the only losers in this little geographic blunder.  Sutton also managed to screw a minor league baseball team on the other end of OH-13.  Avon, Ohio is home to the Lake Erie Crushers.   Just as the Aeros have done for Akron, the Crushers are providing a positive economic impact on Avon and the surrounding area.

Where else did Sutton spend campaign dollars that could have been pumped into our local economy? That’s right, another 11th district recipient: Cleveland, Ohio’s Cavaliers sold Sutton $374 dollars worth of tickets on June 01, 2009.

It’s clear that Betty Sutton is only in this for the power and glory of Betty.  We have shown time and time again that the representative has little regard for the economy of OH-13.  Sutton votes against the interests of this district at every turn.  Although it may be small dollars this time, the congresswoman’s purchases represent yet another example of Betty’s unofficial motto, “Screw You 13!”

What say you Betty Sutton?

Still Waiting…

October 22nd, 2009

countup

We were recently reminded that Congresswoman Betty Sutton has still not provided an answer to Matthew of North Ridgeville’s Tele-Town-Hall question:  Cite the portion of the Constitution which allows the federal government to force people to buy insurance.

In honor of this stupendous delay, we have created the Official Betty Sutton Count-Up To Answers clock!

B is for Barberton and Betty

October 19th, 2009

Our friends at MeatAndPotatoes.org took a good swipe at Congresswoman Betty Sutton in their recent post, School Levy Madness!  They have most certainly earned this week’s “pwned” award.

betty_pelosi

Most of Summit County is represented at the Federal Level by Betty Sutton, you may remember the “Tax and Spend” liberal from her many photo ops with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.  I can’t remember hearing much else; since she is the ONLY member of congress who refuses to appear on our local talk radio station….you got something to hide Betty?  Well her home town of Barberton is following in her footsteps this fall, and is a great example of both the city and the Congresswomen’s failed approach to throwing crazy money at the problem!

Health Care B.S.

All the August Helath Care Meetings Were Great!

The August Helath Care Meetings Were Great!

You cannot help but laugh at this Betty Sutton story posted on umc.org

Democratic Rep. Betty Sutton says she hosted and attended many meetings in her northern Ohio district during the August recess to talk about health care reform with constituents.

What is she talking about? Where and when did all this happen?

I distinctly remember the representative spending most of the August Recess hiding from us.  Of course, I’m not a lawyer like the Congresswoman, so understanding what ‘attending many meetings in the district’ really means is probably way over my head.

“Unfortunately, I have also heard a good deal of misinformation and inaccurate interpretations of the proposals and have attempted to provide information to correct the record,” she says. “For example, rumors about death panels and government access to bank accounts have had to be repeatedly dispelled.”

What about abortion or the constitutionality of this reform plan? Are these concerns also based on inaccurate interpretations of your plan?

The opinions of her constituents differ greatly on the pending proposals, with some favoring a single-payer system and others wanting to “inject choice and competition into the system by providing consumers with the potential to choose a public option.”

“Some constituents have also indicated that they want me to vote no, regardless of what any health reform bill contains,” she says. “Many supporters have encouraged me to fight for a public option, while some opposed have issued ‘demands’ that I vote no regardless of the contents proposed.”

Some favor this, some favor that, some indicate their ideas, others DEMAND. How dare anyone in the thirteenth district DEMAND anything.

I love the way Betty paints supporters of her plan as concerned and engaged, but those others, well…

Sutton says she believes all Americans should have access to affordable quality health care.

denials

Quality!

“We should inject competition in health care reform. The way we achieve this is by creating a public option to compete with private insurers as one choice that consumers could purchase if they so desire,” the Ohio congresswoman says.

I agree.  More than 1300 private health insurance companies just isn’t quite enough competition, but if we could just add one more… Voila!

Where’s Betty Sutton? Shame on the Columbus Dispatch

Betty Sutton “Speaks Out”: What should U.S. do? Ohio’s lawmakers weigh in on the Afghan war

Congresswoman Betty Sutton Takes a Well Deserved Rest

Congresswoman Sutton Takes a Well Deserved Rest.

After her landmark speech at the West Virginia Federation of Democratic Women’s annual meeting, Betty Sutton is certainly due for a period of rest and relaxation. It’s for this reason that I say pooh-pooh on you Jonathan Riskind and the Columbus Dispatch for pointing out that Betty Sutton failed to meet a deadline.

Not included

Rep. Betty Sutton, D-Akron, did not respond in time to include her comments.

If you, Mr. Riskind, or your paper were worth a dime, you would know that the representative of Ohio’s 13th district is quite busy representing our interests in far away places like West Virginia.   How can she possibly be expected to meet a ridiculous deadline from a rag like the Columbus Dispatch. Shame on you for not holding this article until Betty’s response arrived, however long that might have taken (at least three weeks in many cases).

Seriously, Betty, could you try to do a little less gallivanting around the countryside and be a bit more accessible? Look at the list of representatives who managed to respond to Jonathan Riskind’s simple question:

Rep. Steve Driehaus, OH-1 D
Rep. Jean Schmidt, OH-2 R
Rep. Mike Turner, OH-3 R
Rep. Jim Jordan, OH-4 R
Rep. Bob Latta, OH-5 R
Rep. Charlie Wilson, OH-6 D
Rep. Steve Austria, OH-7 R
Rep. John Boehner, OH-8 R
Rep. Marcy Kaptur, OH-9 D
Rep. Dennis J. Kucinich, OH-10 D
Rep. Marcia Fudge, OH-11 D
Rep. Pat Tiberi, OH-12 R
Rep. Betty Sutton, OH-13 D
Rep. Steven C. LaTourette, OH-14 R
Rep. Mary Jo Kilroy, OH-15 D
Rep. John Boccieri, OH-16 D
Rep. Tim Ryan, OH-17 D
Rep. Zack Space, OH-18 D

That’s right, ALL OF THEM ARE LISTED EXCEPT YOU! Every other representative managed to step up and make a statement.  What happened Betty?

The man was only asking for 250 words (or less). Are you really that busy? Or, could it be that you are just afraid to answer tough questions?
